As I watch the beauty of Autumn gently falling upon us, the trees letting go of their leaves, life cycles ending, and the light beginning to wane, I feel a mixture of gratitude, grief, reflection, release, and hope for the next seasons to come. But for the last few months, I have been sitting with this feeling that this winter has the potential to be especially difficult during these challenging times. Hunkering down during the winter is often welcomed, but our reliance on outdoor activities and spaces to safely connect will be greatly affected by those of us in the Pacific Northwest.
About halfway through the summer, I felt Winter coming and with it came this deep call to prepare emotionally, physically, and spiritually for the holidays without my family, the sun going down at 4:00 PM, not meeting outdoors as often for walks and talks with my people, the inclination to eat a lot of sugar, and move less. Being present with the darkness could take on a whole new meaning this year.
I sat in meditation on this. I saw myself in a dark, cold, damp cave. Then I looked down at my hands and feet and called my energy body forward. In this vision, since I was in total darkness, my energy body was brighter than I had ever seen it. More ethereal, more magical, and more colorful than I had ever experienced it before. It was this reminder that I am the light and if I begin to stoke the fire that burns inside of me, continue to rise in my power and strength then I can prepare for creating the most beautiful and magical end to this year. I can move into winter light, bright and at peace.
This month join us as we stoke the Divine light within. We will honor and give thanks for what did go well this year. We will reflect on what we created, what came to an end, release what needs to come to an end, and tune into practices and tools we want to have in place for the seasons to come.
